Non-TELUS devices: set up data

Compatible non TELUS devices should be able to make voice calls and send/receive text messages on our mobile network. Due to the vast number of non TELUS devices available, data configuration varies by device. You can use these general guidelines and settings to configure your device's data connection.

If you are using a compatible and unlocked non TELUS Blackberry device, data will automatically be configured when you insert your TELUS SIM card.

If you are using a compatible and unlocked non TELUS PDA / Smartphone, try the following steps to configure your device's data connection.


Set up your Internet connection

  1. Navigate to your device's connection settings menu (menu name may vary by device)
  2. Enter the following configuration settings into the appropriate fields according to your device type:
    DEVICE TYPE ACCESS POINT NAME (APN) PROXY SERVER PORT
    Smartphone sp.telus.com 74.49.0.18 80
    Mobile Internet Key, Mobile hotspot, Smart Hub, tablet  isp.telus.com
    Feature phone consumer.telus.com

Setting up Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS)

  1. Set up your internet connection using the instructions listed above.
  2. Navigate to your device's Messaging menu.
  3. Select Multimedia Messaging settings
  4. Enter the following Message Centre / MMS gateway information:
  5. MMSC URL: http://aliasredirect.net/proxy/mmsc
  6. MMSC Proxy: 74.49.0.18
  7. MMSC Port: 80

Setting up Tethering

  1. Navigate to your device's connection settings menu (menu name may vary by device)
  2. Enter the following APN information:
    APN: isp.telus.com

Please note that when tethering some devices, you may need to enter this information into the computer you are using rather than the device.
