Update your smartphone software

Keep your smartphone running efficiently by using the latest available software.

If your Android software version is not 4.0.4, you are eligible for a software upgrade.

Before you update your smartphone, you need to know your current software version.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select About phone.
  4. Scroll down to Android version.
  5. If your software version is 4.0.4 you don't need an upgrade.
  6. If you need to upgrade your software, follow the instructions below.

Before you begin

Before you begin, you will need the following.

  • A computer with Windows operating system and the following system requirements:
    • Microsoft® Windows XP™ SP2 (32 bit), Vista (32/64 bit) or Windows 7 (32/64 bit)
    • At least 2 GB of RAM
    • 500 MB free hard disk space
    • Intel® Pentium® 4, 3.6 GHz or equivalent AMD processor
    • Administrator privileges on the computer for software installation
    • Access to a high-speed internet connection
    • A working USB port
  • A fully charged smartphone battery.
  • The USB cable included with your smartphone at the time of purchase.

NOTE: You will not be able to place or receive calls during the software installation procedure.

Install Sony PC Companion on your computer

  1. Launch Internet Explorer or Firefox.
  2. Type in your address bar and press the Enter key.
  3. Click Download PC Companion.
  4. The File Download window appears. Click Run.
    NOTE: If this screen does not appear, you will need to disable the pop-up blocker from the browser's Tools menu.
  5. Select your desired language.
  6. From the My location* menu, select Canada.
  7. Click Install.
  8. The License Agreement window appears. If you agree to the conditions, click I acccept.
  9. The Installer window appears and the software installation is completed.
  10. The Sony PC Companion 2.1 icon appears on your Desktop.

Sony PC Companion is installed on your computer.

Install the software update on your smartphone

  1. Connect your smartphone to your computer with the USB cable provided in the box.
  2. From your Desktop, double-click the Sony PC Companion 2.1 icon.
  3. From the Support Zone section, click Start.
  4. From the Phone Software Update section, click Start.
  5. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the software update.

The software update is installed on your smartphone.

Confirm the software update installation was successful

To confirm that the software update was successfully installed, do the following.

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select About phone.
  4. Scroll down to Android version.
  5. Your software version should display 4.0.4.

If the software version does not match the above version then the software was not updated properly. Try the following:

  1. Disconnect the smartphone from your computer.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Reinsert the battery.
  4. Reconnect the smartphone to your computer and launch Sony PC Companion 2.1 to try the upgrade once again.
