Update your phone software

If your software version is not GB255g-V10f-NOV-17, you are eligible for a software upgrade.

Keep your phone running efficiently by using the latest available software.

    Before you update your phone, you need to know your current software version.

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Select Information.
  5. Select Handset information.
  6. If your software version is GB255g-V10f-NOV-17, you don't need an upgrade.
  7. If you need to upgrade your software, follow the instructions below.

Before you begin

    Before you begin, you will need the following.

  • A computer with Windows operating system and the following system requirements:
    • Windows 2000 (Version 4 or newer), Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or higher), Windows Vista, or Windows 7.
    • At least 256MB of RAM.
    • 1GHz or higher Pentium-compatible processor.
    • Administrator privileges on the computer for software installation.
    • Access to a high-speed internet connection.
    • A working USB port.
  • A fully charged phone battery.
  • The USB cable included with your phone at the time of purchase.
  • NOTE: You will not be able to place or receive calls during the software installation procedure.

Download the software update to your computer

  1. Launch Internet Explorer or Firefox.
  2. Type http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/index.jsp in your address bar and press the Enter key.
  3. Click Mobile Phone support.
  4. Type GB255G in the Model Name search text field.
  5. Click Search.
  6. Upgrade is available appears in red.
  7. Scroll down to Download LG Mobile Support Tool to PC and click Download.
  8. The File Download window appears. Click Run.
    NOTE: If this screen does not appear, you will need to disable the pop-up blocker from the browser's Tools menu.
  9. Click Options & Help.
  10. Click Country & Language. From the drop down list, select Canada.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Install USB Driver.
  13. Double-click GB255G.
  14. The Install Shield Wizard window appears. Select your language preference and click Next.
  15. When the Install Shield Wizard is finished, click OK.
  16. LGMobile update icon appears on your Desktop.

The software update is downloaded to your computer.

Install the software update on your phone

  1. Connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable provided in the box.
  2. From your Desktop, double-click the LGMobile update icon.
  3. Click Start Updating (highlighted in red).

The software update is installed on your phone.

Confirm the software update installation was successful

To confirm that the software update was successfully installed, do the following.

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Select Information.
  5. Select Handset information.
  6. Your software version should display GB255g-V10f-NOV-17.

If the software version does not match the above version then the software was not updated properly. Try the following:

  1. Disconnect the phone from your computer.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Reinsert the battery.
  4. Reconnect the phone to your computer and select Restart to try the upgrade once again.
