Set up and use Mobile Hotspot on your BlackBerry

You can set up your BlackBerry as a Wi-Fi™ source for computers and other smartphones with Wi-Fi capability.

NOTE: Your BlackBerry smartphone software must be updated to BlackBerry 7.1 OS or higher to use this feature. To ensure that your BlackBerry has the most up-to-date software, see BlackBerry software updates.

Set up your Mobile Hotspot for the first time

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Select Maximize Panel.
  3. Tap Manage Connections.
  4. Tap Mobile Hotspot.
  5. The Mobile Hotspot window appears. Type the desired passphrase for the Mobile Hotspot connection, then tap OK.

    NOTE: All Wi-Fi capable devices which connect to your Mobile Hotspot will require this passphrase, or password.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Select Networks and Connections.
  8. Select Mobile Hotspot Connections.
  9. Tap Options.
  10. Clear the default Network Name (SSID) and type the name you would like to use to identify your Mobile Hotspot network.
  11. Press the Exit key.
  12. The Changes made! window appears. Tap Save.

Your Mobile Hotspot is set up.

Turn off Mobile Hotspot

To conserve your battery and data usage, you can turn off Mobile Hotspot when you're not using it. Do the following.

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Select Maximize Panel.
  3. Tap Manage Connections.
  4. Clear the Mobile Hotspot check box.

Your Mobile Hotspot network is turned off.

Turn on Mobile Hotspot

To turn on Mobile Hotspot, do the following.

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Select Maximize Panel.
  3. Tap Manage Connections.
  4. Tap Mobile Hotspot. A check mark appears and Connected is displayed.

Your Mobile Hotspot network is turned on.
